One Gym Class not worth skipping...

When Emo/Pop/Punk started to crash the charts, the music industry, and our brains, one band did it with a very funny, fresh sound.  That band was Gym Class Heroes.  With front man Travie McCoy singing hysterical lyrics against funky beats, G.C.H. had some pretty memorable hits with songs like, "The Queen and I" and of course "Cupid's Choke Hold".  But that was back in 2005.  Since then, Gym Class Heroes have almost virtually fizzled out, unfortunate next to some of their more annoying counterparts.  Travie McCoy stayed in the spotlight though, with the release of his fist solo project Lazarus.  He has since spent most of this past year promoting and touring with major name acts.  McCoy recently sat down with MTV however to discuss Gym Class Heroes recent moves towards a new album.

As early as this summer, The Paper Chronicles II could be new music to our ears.  McCoy tells MTV that the band is in the final recording stages of this album after a year of work.  Gym Class Heroes have almost 40 demos for the upcoming album.  One track they will talk about is "Stereo Hearts", featuring vocals from Adam Levine, front man to Maroon 5.  Special guests on the rest of the album? Big names but being kept a major secret.  GCH are going to keep a lot of their original sound, but aren't hesitant to try something new.  The album will be a like a sequel to The Paper Chronicles I, having intros to songs that were outros on the first record.  Gym Class Heroes are hoping this record will show their growth sonically.

This news is definitely something I like to hear.  I have been a huge fan of GCH, before they even hit the mainstream.  "Crab Apple Kids" is one of my favorite songs, and that is off of their first album ever.  Travie McCoy's solo album was one of my favorites last year, and ya know he is such a cutie with all of those tattoos.  But even though Lazarus was a great success, it was lacking many qualities that GCH's sound has.  They have always been a fun, upbeat, interesting sounding band.  They also put on a great live show, and like I just said, having a second reason to see McCoy is never a bad thing. To me, GCH is that band you play at a BBQ, in the car while cruising in the summer, or anything that involves fun.  So I am totally looking forward to anymore news about The Paper Chronicles II and its future release :)

New Lil Wayne Singlee

Lil Wayne has made himself a house hold name in recent years. He has come from being a grill wearing southern rapper to a multi million dollar mogul. There are very few tracks that he is not featured on in any genre of music today. His notoriety and fame stem from the fact that Wayne just may be one of the hardest working rappers in the game today. After his recent stint in jail, The Carter IV is set to drop on May 16 with much anticipation. Wayne leaked the single, "6 Foot7 Foot" about a month ago, calling it the sequel to the chart topping hit "A Mili". If the single is to show us anything about the upcoming album, its that jail did the lyrical body good. Instead of having word vomit, which can sometimes happen to rappers that have been memorizing verses for months, Wayne spits as he always did-methodically and melodically.

Recently leaked a few days ago, "If I Die Today" is slated to be the second single off the album. Produced by Polow Da Don, Weezy depicts for his listeners how he would use his last 24 hours of life with a little help from fellow rapper Rick Ross. The track sounds vaguely familiar to anyone that purchased Ross’ album Teflon Don; it almost could be called part 2 of Teflon Don’s first single, "I'm Not a Star". The track has more of Ross’ sound to me then a Lil Wayne banger. And since I’m not a Rick Ross for many reasons(they will be discussed later I’m sure), I don’t necessarily know if I would upload it to my 8 year old ipod nano just yet. There is one thing I can not knock it for though, and that is the fact that Weezy lyrically kills it as usual. What attracted me to Lil Wayne has always been his assault on the English language in the form of rap. And with lines like, "Prepare for the worst but I’m still praying for the best/The game is a bitch and I got my hand up her dress" and "if I die today remember me like John Lennon", Lil Wayne keeps the anticipation for The Carter IV on high.

and so we begin....

To some people, music is just the background noise of their lives.  To me, the soundtrack means more then the actors, the setting, and sometimes even the plot.  Put on a song, and I will recall a memory for you.  Dates, details, little deja-vus do not spark my memory-music does.  My musical taste spreads all over the map.  Pick a genre, and I will tell you my favorite artist or song and why.  I have never limited my liking, I have always wondered throughout the musical forest.  Some people wont believe this.  You will say, "oh everyone says that".  But I am hoping you will stick around long enough to read this blog and realize, "oh wow, she knows a ton about music."  I have spent countless hours when there was plenty of papers, homework, and life deadlines to music.  It is completely my comfort zone.  After seeing the movie Almost Famous, i knew what i wanted to do with my life...Write about everyone Else's background noise.
