Any girl who has had a break up recently can probably recite the lyrics to the icy ballad, "Jar of Hearts" over and over. Christina Perri's anthem for lovers scorned sky rocketed the 24 year old's career. The song was used on an episode of Fox Network's 'So You Think You Can Dance' and Perri instantly had record labels drooling everywhere. With lyrics like "You're going to catch a cold/from all the ice in your soul/so don't come back to me" its easy to see why anyone in a breakup would find this song appealing.
Perri's debut album drops on the music world today. LoveStrong has twelve songs packed with the artist's thoughts on love. She wrote every song on the album herself. Love is the only thing that Perri likes to write about; she feels its gives her strength. The new comer is also quite the musician-she can play both the guitar and piano. Fans can catch Perri playing LoveStrong on tour right now, she is currently opening for the British ballad sensation James Blunt. Over the summer, Christina will embark on her first headlining tour, visiting small venues around the country so she can keep her shows intimate.
When I first saw Christina Perri, I thought how cliche. A young girl, indie looks, all tatted up. I thought she was a product of what the music label thought would sell. I have to admit though, I would blast "Jar of Hearts" when I was sad. Learning about Perri and her story and now having listened to LoveStrong, I will gladly take away my first impression. LoveStrong has some amazing songs on its track listing. I love the concept behind "Penguin" and "Arms" for some reason has a hold on me currently. I think Perri's success has only just begun, LoveStrong is chock full of anthems for hopeless romantics and heartbroken people everywhere!
